Kevin Block
Kevin P. Block is a litigator and land use attorney whose practice focuses on the wine industry. He represents growers, wineries, investors and others in court and arbitration, advises them on business and real estate disputes, and appears on their behalf before city and county decision-makers in land use matters.

Kevin has acted as counsel in numerous matters of special interest to the wine industry, including cases of wine fraud, winemaker malpractice, injury to brand equity, application of the Subdivision Map Act, family succession in legacy wineries, and interpretation of the Napa County Winery Definition Ordinance.

Kevin was formerly a partner at Holme, Roberts & Owen (now Bryan Cave HRO), where he was a leader in developing the firm’s international practice. During the 1990’s, he practiced in Moscow, Kiev and Vladivostok, supervising up to 15 attorneys.

During his overseas tenure, Kevin acted as counsel to Deutsche Telekom, Cargill, Weyerhaeuser, Alcoa Aluminum, Daewoo, Bank of Austria, INVESCO Funds, Sea-Land, Mitsui, the late Sir James Goldsmith, and the Soros Foundation, among other clients. He became a recognized expert in cross-border transactions with the former Soviet republics, speaking frequently at investment conferences throughout Europe and Asia, providing media commentary, writing law review articles, and serving as an expert witness on Russian law.

A native of the Napa Valley, Kevin returned in 1998 to raise a family. After serving two years on the Planning Commission, he was elected to the Napa City Council in 2003, where he was considered a forceful and effective advocate for the City’s economic renaissance. As a council member, Kevin played a key role in shaping major development projects in and around the City, and was instrumental in improving relations between the City and County of Napa.

Kevin holds degrees in law from NYU Law School, international affairs from Columbia University, and Russian language and literature from Oberlin College. He is fluent in Russian, and lives in Napa with his wife, Tanya, and their children.
